Born in Tehran in 1966, he began filmmaking by directing a number of short films, including For Him, A Rainy Day and The Rooster. He has also made the TV series Aftab and Aziz Khanom and The kids from Hemmat School. The Child and the Soldier (2000, Diploma of Honor for Best Directing, 18th Fajr Film Festival) was his first feature film.
